Helmut Newton's "Saddle II, Paris 1976" original fine art photograph for Vogue Hommes and fashion house Hermes, Paris. Newton shot this now seminal work after noticing the display cases in the Faubourg Saint-Honoré windows of Hermès. Dressed with finely crafted saddles, harnesses and bridles set next to more ephemeral fashions, Newton was to incorporate these juxtapositions and ironies in this witty, kinky and absurd series of images. Enclosed within the privacy of the domestic scene, ‘Saddle II’ affords us and glimpse into the forbidden world of fantasy and sexual corruption as told through the pages of Vogue Hommes.

Newton hired American producer Norman Solomon to produce and distribute the collection which subsequently opened in Paris, London, New York, and Los Angeles. Following several years of uninspiring sales, the pair parted ways with Solomon receiving the remainder of inventory from Newton as consideration his services. This agreement between Newton and Solomon was executed in Los Angeles, California at the Chateau Marmont Hotel where Newton resided until his death, and has since been supplemented by further legal agreement in 2012 with the Helmut Newton Estate.
