"Saddle I, Paris 1976" 20x24 Vintage Silver Gelatin Print by Helmut Newton.
Helmut Newton's Private Property Collection "Saddle I Paris" vintage gelatin silver print by Helmut Newton featuring a Hérmes inspired theme.
Newton shot this now seminal work after noticing the display cases in the Faubourg Saint-Honoré windows of Hermès. Dressed with finely crafted saddles, harnesses and bridles set next to more ephemeral fashions, Newton was to incorporate these juxtapositions and ironies in this witty, kinky and absurd series of images. Enclosed within the privacy of the domestic scene, ‘Saddle I’ affords us and glimpse into the forbidden world of fantasy and sexual corruption as told through the paged of Vogue Hommes.
This is a rare pre-1985 original vintage print produced in small numbers from a series of transparencies that Newton considered his most provocative and important work through 1985. Most were destroyed or written over, it is very rare to find them in immaculate condition.
