"Arielle After Haircut, Paris 1982" 16x20 Vintage Silver Gelatin Print by Helmut Newton
A striking blend of elegance, rebellion, and transformation, "Arielle After Haircut, Paris 1982" is a captivating portrait of Arielle Burgelin, one of Helmut Newton’s favorite muses. Coming from an aristocratic background, Burgelin carved her own path in the modeling world, working with many of the era’s most celebrated photographers, including Newton.
In this image, Newton captures a moment of transition—the precise lines of Arielle’s fresh haircut contrast dramatically with the jagged clippings still scattered across her shoulders. This raw and unfiltered composition challenges traditional beauty norms, reinforcing Newton’s signature ability to merge vulnerability with strength, elegance with disruption. It remains one of his most coveted and sought-after portraits.
