"Rue Aubriot II with Nude Model, Paris 1975"
20x24 Vintage Silver Gelatin Print by Helmut Newton

Description: A stunning continuation of Helmut Newton’s most iconic series, "Rue Aubriot II with Nude Model, Paris 1975" builds upon the legendary Rue Aubriot composition with the provocative presence of a nude female figure. This second image in the celebrated series captures Newton’s mastery of contrast, styling, and narrative tension.

Featuring actress Vibeke Knudsen, dressed in Yves Saint Laurent’s signature Le Smoking tuxedo, standing alongside a nude model on a lamp-lit street in Paris, Newton blends high fashion with erotic subtext in a scene pulsing with quiet drama. The image reflects Newton’s ongoing interest in androgyny, duality, and the mystique of nighttime Paris.

Shot in natural street lighting, Newton drew inspiration from Brassai’s evocative nighttime photography, using shadow and architecture to create depth and mood. As Newton recalled in a 1988 interview with New York Magazine, "The idea was a man-woman standing in the street at night—the street, in fact, in Paris’ Marais district, where I lived for 14 years." His residence is visible in the background, rooting the image in personal significance.  Read more about Helmut Newton's Rue Aubriot here.
