"David Bowie, Monte Carlo 1983" 16x20 Vintage Silver Gelatin Print by Helmut Newton
In 1983, David Bowie stood before Helmut Newton’s lens in the hills above Monte Carlo, in the courtyard of a forgotten jail—shirt unbuttoned, suspenders falling loose, his gaze steady and fearless. This rare portrait is the result of a deeply personal photo session between two cultural titans and longtime friends.
Helmut Newton and David Bowie shared more than just professional admiration—Bowie was one of Newton’s closest confidants and among the largest private collectors of his work. That trust is visible in every frame: unguarded, unperformed, and timeless.
This 16x20 vintage silver gelatin print is from Newton’s Private Property series, considered by the artist himself to be his most intimate and significant body of early work.
Offered estate-stamped and printed to archival standards, this piece includes full documentation of authenticity and provenance, making it a rare opportunity for serious collectors of fine art photography and Bowie ephemera alike.
