"Elsa Peretti II, New York 1975" 16x20 Vintage Silver Gelatin Print by Helmut Newton Photography
Elsa Peretti, New York 1975 16x20 Vintage Silver Gelatin Print by Helmut Newton
Perhaps Newton's most iconic work, followed by the work he did for Playboy, 'Elsa Peretti in Bunny Costume' is a lasting image of the 1970s. Newton shot this work in New York amongst the towering skyscrapers that characterize the American Dream, equally epitomized by the Playboy lifestyle in the 70's.
In this photograph, Newton features the iconic motifs of his work - casting the intimacy of the night into the reality of the day, and merging private attire with public spaces. The work embodies some of Newton's signature themes, blending the intimacy of night with the starkness of daytime and merging private attire with public spaces. Most notably, it reflects the voyeuristic gaze, evoking a sense of powerful eyes watching Peretti from every skyscraper window.
